Farewell, My Tree!

I recently learned that I have to cut down my very tall, very old eucalyptus tree. The tree is in my front yard and is one of the first things I fell in love with when I first saw the house. It takes a lot of water and doesn't offer much shade, but it's majestic and was here long before any of the houses and roads were. I hate the thought of cutting it down!

My house was purchased after a 90-day flip. The flip job wasn't the greatest – there are a lot of mistakes such as incorrectly installed kitchen cabinets and floor tiles that wobble – but I absolutely love the new privacy wall, Arizona room, and fenced-in back yard. What they didn't tell us, although they probably didn't know after only 90 days of ownership, was that this tree's roots had completely infiltrated the underground pipes.

We discovered the root problem after calling a plumber for a toilet, sink, and bathtub drainage problem in one of our bathrooms. The first plumber pulled up a lot of roots, and the video camera from the second plumber's visit showed a near-complete root blockage in a few of the pipes located in the bathroom wall. It appears our majestic tree is seeking any and all water sources – and destroying all of our pipes in the process. Unfortunately, it has to come down because even when we replace all the pipes, any live roots will break into the new pipes again to seek the water. This is Arizona (a desert), after all.

I wish we could just uproot the tree and plant it somewhere else. I hate the thought of killing a tree that freshens our air and provides beauty at the same time!

I know I can plant a couple smaller trees out closer to the road, or perhaps in the back yard.  And I probably will. But I'll still feel badly about cutting this tree down.

It's that caring, passion, and empathy that I also bring to my job as a real estate agent. I consider myself a partner in the home buying and selling process, not a salesperson. I really do care about the people I help, as well as for the properties they buy and sell. If you want a partner in your home buying (or selling) journey – one who will really care about you and your needs – email me today at Theresa@Munanga.com.
